Relationship, (Sex) and Health Education
Statutory requirements
From September 2020 Relationships (Sex) and Health Education is compulsory in all infant, junior and primary schools
At Northway Infant School and Carrant Brook Junior School, and as part of the GLA Trust we teach R(S)HE as set out in this policy.
Aims
The aims of Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (RSHE) at our school are to:
- Provide a framework in which sensitive discussions can take place
- Give pupils understanding of the importance of health and hygiene
- Help pupils develop feelings of self-respect, confidence and empathy
- Create a positive culture around issues of sexuality and relationships
- Teach pupils the correct vocabulary to describe themselves and their bodies.
RSHE aims to equip children and young people with the: information, skills and values
Which they will need to lead: safe, fulfilling, enjoyable relationships
And which will help them go on to: take responsibility for their sexual health and wellbeing.

- Families and people who care for me
- Caring friendships
- Respectful, kind relationships
- Online safety and awareness
- Being safe
Health Education covers:
- General wellbeing
- Wellbeing online
- Physical health and fitness
- Healthy eating
- Drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vaping
- Health protection and prevention
- Personal safety
- Basic first aid
- Developing bodies
