Statement of Intent
*Please note our curriculum is currently under review, in preparation for our Community Curriculum launch for September 2026, and therefore documentation may vary on this page as and when it is completed. Current curriculum documentation is at the bottom of the page.
At Carrant Brook we delve into a variety of different areas of history covering time periods from areas both inside and outside of Europe to ensure the children gain a wider world view. We ensure the children know and understand some of the major events that shaped the British Isles, building a coherent chronological narrative (We are inspired).
Our curriculum enables our pupils to start building a knowledge and understanding of the history of other civilisations whilst making links of similarities between time periods. In doing this, the children will gain an understanding of historical concepts such as continuity, change, cause and consequence. Our pupils will learn how to analyse sources of evidence and judge their usefulness in building a picture of the past (We are resilient).
The children will also gain an understanding of how there can be two contrasting views of a historical
event and how it shapes modern perception. Whilst building this understanding of wider history, they will also develop a sense of place by exploring the history of their locality. Across the subject, they will explore concepts such as religion, culture, military, national, international, economic and how these apply to events that can be placed within timescales (We are caring).
